- About Scott McKinsey
- Scott has recently returned to
the northwest Missouri area after spending several years successfully
training and showing in north Texas, just outside of Fort Worth. Scott
competed at both at weekend shows and at major NCHA events while training
out of Three Rivers Ranch, and while he was very fortunate to have the
opportunity to ride many good show horses both for the ranch and others, he is
happy to be closer to family and to train at his dad's new
cutting facility. Scott and Steve both share similar training techniques
and ideas, and are enjoying the challenges and rewards of running a
family-owned business.
-
- Scott's wife Marsha is an active rider,
and works full time as an equine analyst for
the thoroughbred industry. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree
at the University of Dayton, and has completed graduate work in
equine physiology and nutrition. Together they are raising three up-and-coming cutters, twins
Aaron and Matthew, and their newest son Luke.

- Scott's
Background
- Scott has a tremendous amount of
experience training under some of the best cutters in the industry today.
He worked for Bill Riddle from the summer of 1994 to the spring of 2000,
during which time he competed at most of the major NCHA aged events
throughout the US. During that time period, Bill was the leading
NCHA trainer and won over $2,000,000 on several different horses including
Dox Smart Buy, Stylish and Foxy, and Dual Reward, and in 1997 alone he won
over $360,000. Scott also has been the head trainer at Frank Merrill's
Winward Stud, and at Blue River Ranch in Wilber, Nebraska. Earlier
in his career, he started colts for Pat Fitzgerald and also Ernie
Beutenmiller.
Scott
has been able to incorporate and combine what he has learned from these
top performance horse programs into his own style of training. He
allows his colts to learn at their own pace, with the experience to know
when to push them and when to back off. He spends a great amount of
time suppling the colts, teaching them to bend, turn around, and stop
straight. He teaches them to work a cow correctly and with feel and
intensity, while still keeping their front ends free to move quickly.
Scott's
horses present a pretty picture to work and ride.
- Scott's

to list. Some well-known horses that
Scott has trained include Short Willy, JR Smart San, Pretty Patty Parker,
Sams Smart Plan, Catherines Choice, and TR Shorty. Scott enjoys
helping other cutters, both beginners and experienced riders, and he
offers cutting lessons, showing, practice, and cow-working and
horsemanship clinics.
